Child pornography is illegal in most jurisdictions of the world. Convictions for possessing child pornography also usually include prison sentences, but those sentences are often converted to probation for first-time offenders. Child pornography is pornography that exploits children for sexual stimulation. It may be produced with the sexual assault of a child (also known as child sexual abuse images) or simulated child pornography. One reason why pedophiles collect these images is to prepare a child for sexual abuse as part of the process of "child grooming" or enticement leading to entrapment for sexual exploitation such as production of new child pornography or child prostitution.
