Paid Internships to United Nations

This year, Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield announced a new paid internship program to the United Nations. She stated that many students aren't able to take an unpaid internship who come from low-income communities. Those who are able to take unpaid internships are often privileged individuals.  “We need a diverse pipeline of leaders who look like America and understand the UN inside out,” says Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield. The majority of the positions within the United Nations are filled from within the organization, Ambassor Thomas-Greenfield states - thus making it important for interns to be from a diverse background to become part of this organization. This new internship program will allow for a more diverse group of students to take internships, allowing them to pay necessary bills often needed for those from low-income groups.

2022 Theme

Nourishing Peace

This year, the focus is on nourishing peace. "The UN is uniquely equipped to deal with the major issues we face on a global level. One of these issues is food security.

Nourishing Peace, UNA-USA’s theme for UN Day 2022, aims to address how food security and peace are intertwined on the international scale. In 2022, we have seen firsthand how the scarcity of sufficient and nutritious food drives conflict and how violence threatens food supply chains all across the globe. With this theme, chapters can support the work of the UN in addressing food security and peace at home and abroad." - Learn More
